This impressive cedar structure is located at the Two Rivers
Museum in Washougal. It is constructed of Western red cedar
logs and inspired by the Chinook cedar plankhouses that once
stood along the Columbia River. The large house pole carvings
are by artist Adam McIssac.
I designed the building and consulted with structural engineers
to conceal all the modern seismic fasteners required. I also
served as the project manager for the construction, sourced the
massive cedar posts and beams and got them graded, and
even spent a few days with a chainsaw notching logs and
cutting the center hole out before the mounting of the 15' tall front
carving.
You can visit this project at the Two Rivers Museum, located at 1
Durgan St. Washougal, WA
